The Grand Union Canal clean-up – Saturday 23 June 2012, 10am–3pm – FREE
Join members of the Birmingham Canal Navigations Society (BCNS) as we clean-up towpaths near the mooring for Slow Boat. If you would like to take part in the clean-up please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Arrive at 9.30-10.00 for cup of tea and coffee served at at Slow Boat (moored in Warwick Bar)
Parking at Warwick Bar is limited. Better parking solutions may be found in the surrounding roads but there are also a number of reasonably priced parking options in the Custard Factory (Digbeth High Street) and on Heath Mill Lane.
10 – 10.30am – Health & Safety briefing led by Murrary Woodward – British Waterways Volunteer Co-ordinator . All volunteers will be issued with a high-vis vest and extra life jackets are available for those who will need them. Locations will be allocated to all volunteers including towpath litter picking within a designated area. Activity to include: canal-side grappling, litter-picking, clearing bushes, re-painting stop locks.
12 – 1pm – Break for lunch – There will be a small amount of food and drink provided for all volunteers but please do bring your own. We will make a picnic area in the Edible Eastside grounds adjacent to Warwick Bar.
1 – 3pm – Weather dependant we will continue will the clean-up after lunch and aim to be packed away and off-site by 3.30pm latest.
Gloves and rubbish bags are provided by the volunteer organisers. There will be toilet facilities available on-site at Warwick Bar and at Edible Eastside.
